Premedical Club meeting

Premedical Club meeting, 5:30 pm in 1005 Haworth. Sam Lobell and Becca Phipps, two fourth year medical students from KU MED will be presenting on life as a medical student. Topics ranging from curriculum to taking board exams will be discussed, as well as any questions you all may have. Food and drink will be provided. Once again welcome back and hope to see you there. If anyone interested in the group has any questions about how to join or even just questions about applying to medical school in general, please don't hesitate to email me at Phipps1@ku.edu.

Dr. Andersen will offer introductory remarks, then open the floor for questions and discussions about this program and MD/PhD programs generally. This is an excellent opportunity to get questions answered and to find out if the MD/PhD program is for you. (Freshmen and Sophomores note … There is also a Tri-institutional SUMMER PROGRAM called Gateways to the Laboratory Summer Program, for freshman and sophomores who are contemplating pursuing a combined MD-PhD training.)

SHARE YOUR SUMMER EXPERIENCE

If you have just returned from a summer “biology” experience, we would like to hear from you! Send me a description (no more than one page) of what you did; please include your name and major. Also send us two or three photos of your experience, or a web site we could use. We will post these descriptions/photos in the first and second floor display cases in Haworth. KU Graduate Offer to Candidates Applying to Georgetown School of Medicine--I graduated from KU in 2008 and am just beginning my second year at the Georgetown School of Medicine. KU School of Medicine Primary Care Workshop, Saturday, January 23, 2010--This one-day workshop prepares select Kansas students to shadow physicians, observe doctor-patient communications, learn about the roles other healthcare professionals play, participate in community health programs, and write patient case summaries. www.kumc.edu/som/primarycareworkshop for more program details and application materials.

KU School of Medicine State Premedical Student Conference, Kansas State University, Saturday, February 20, 2010--Join premedical students and advisors from across the state to learn more about the MCAT, receive tips to writing a slam dunk personal statement and financial aid. Take this opportunity to talk to current medical students about what it's like to be a "Jaydoc" and visit with practicing physicians about life after graduation. Future applicants will also have a chance learn about workforce development, our dual degree programs, and other new and helpful topics to prepare future applicants for their application to any medical school. SCHOLARSHIPS

The Armed Forces Health Professions Scholarship Program is a program that will enable you to obtain a fully funded education in the fields of Medicine, Dentistry, Physician Assistance or Optometry, and a commission in the Navy. The scholarship covers tuition, books, and includes a monthly stipend. Participants agree to serve on active duty for every year of participation, with a minimum service obligation of 3-4 years.
