Finding a Research Laboratory

The best way to learn about biology is to do biology, and independent research can provide you with unique and tremendously valuable new learning experiences. Whether you're interested in joining a formal research program (such as the KU Biology Honors Program, or the KU Research Experience Program), or simply want to experience the joys (and frustrations) of carrying out scientific experiments, you will have to find a research laboratory.

Here is what you need to do:

  1. Think about biology topics that interest you.
  2. Review the list below of biology specialty areas to find people and projects that seem interesting to you.
  3. When you find a project you are interested in, contact the faculty member or drop by his or her lab. Explain that you read their research description and want to learn more!
